Romeria el Rocio Spain 2009, El Rocio (Almonte). Annual pentecostal pilgrimage to the Shrine of "El Rocio" the church of El Rocio, the home of El Rocia virgin Madonna of the dew. They come from all Spain. They come on horseback, in carriages and in covered wagons, they come by car, by coach and on foot. And they are in with hundreds of thousands. The pilgrims, known as Roceiros, and come every year on the seventh sunday after easter, they converge on El Rocio, an isolated settlement midway between Huelva and Seville on the edge las marismas, the water meadows and marshlands of Andalucia`s Coto Don-Ana national park. This is not just a religious festival the Rocieros also come here to party, dressed in traditonal costume, this is an opportunity to show off their horses and horsemanship, to call on friends, to dance flamengo. But all have come for the same reason, to vistit El Rocio`s Ermita de Nuestra (the virgin of El Rocio) also known as la Reina de las Marismas (the queen of the wetlands) and La Paloma Blanca (the white dove)
